But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

The Passion of Christ, from the Latin patior meaning 'suffer,' refers to those sufferings our Lord endured for our redemption from the agony in the garden until His death on Calvary.  The Passion is really about a love story - the love that Christ has for you and me.  He was willing to go to the cross, take all the humiliation, extraordinary pain and suffering, and most of all, the sin of the entire human race - past, present and future - upon Himself.
